The Mission of Roaring Fork Schools is to, “ensure that every student develops the enduring knowledge, skills and character to thrive in a changing world.” Carrying out this mission depends on hiring, retaining, and developing qualified teachers. While institutionally determined, Roaring Fork Schools’ qualification requirements for Certified assignments adhere to and evolve with federal and CDE regulations, as articulated currently under ESEA/ESSA (see links below), and are outlined as follows:

CERTIFIED ASSIGNMENTS

Individuals hired for Certified assignments within the district must hold a CDE-issued Teaching or Special Service Provider License or Authorization. Ideally, and in the vast majority of cases, the endorsement(s) indicated by that credential will match with the individual's teaching assignment(s). In most cases, individuals in Certified assignments must be deemed to be “In-Field” as defined by ESSA/CDE. ESSA/CDE defines In-Field Status as:

  1. Holding an endorsement within the assigned teaching area, OR;
  2. Holding a bachelor's degree or higher within the assigned teaching area, OR;
  3. Holding a passing score on the CDE-approved Praxis II content exam(s) for the assigned teaching area, OR;
  4. Holding 36 college-level, semester credit hours within the assigned teaching area, as defined by the corresponding CDE endorsement worksheet (see link below) and local credit policies.
  5. 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR ONLY: Holding only 24 college-level, semester credit hours within the assigned teaching area, as defined by the corresponding CDE endorsement worksheet is allowed through next year only. NOTE: Those previously deemed “Highly-Qualified” via less than 36 credits under the previous regulation (ESEA/NCLB) will NOT be grandfathered-in following the 18-19 school year, and must achieve 36 credits to remain In-Field for 19-20 and beyond.
