Who we are

Roaring Fork Schools serves over 5,600 students across 14 schools in the communities of Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, and Basalt. Each community offers a PreK-12 school continuum, ensuring consistency and fostering a robust school community. We also offer dual language and biliteracy options. The rich diversity of our students' ethnicities, cultures, and socio-economic backgrounds enhances the educational and cultural experiences for everyone in the school community. Through our 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, we are focused on advancing our mission to ensure that every student develops the enduring knowledge, skills, and character to thrive in a changing world with 5 strategic priorities: Students First, Rigorous Learning for All, Operational Excellence, Student-Centered Partnerships, and Thriving Team.

    Superintendent Letter: Addressing financial challenges in the New Year

    As our community turns toward the holiday season and the New Year, columns like this typically reflect on the year that is ending and the new year to come. While I would prefer to share news from the students, families, teachers and staff who make our district so strong, instead I would like to share information about financial challenges facing the district. 

    At its December meeting, the Board of Education learned about several financial issues that will impact the district’s budgets this year and next. The first issue to address is closing out the district’s estimated $5.7 million shortfall, due primarily to underestimating the true cost and risk of the self-insurance plan launched in the 23/24 school year. The shortfall was further complicated by the rushed development of the 24/25 school year budget that omitted key expenditures and overestimated student enrollment. Read more here.
